Research

The objective of this research project is to develop a landscape scale hazard rating system for populations of limber and bristlecone pine in Colorado using data collected in Wyoming

Site Characteristics – Field data
Elevation, % Slope , Aspect, Slope position, Slope configuration, Stand structure, Dominant tree spp., Dominant understory spp., Proportion by diameter class / crown class

Site Characteristics – Derived data
Extensive Ribes data, Stream density, Distance to nearest stream

Meteorological analysis – CSU
Mean monthly precipitation and temperature min/max – PRISM data
Parent material, Soil texture, Depth to bedrock – USGS Geologic maps, STATSGO data
Time since infection – historical surveys, canker growth rate analysis

Using dendrochronological techniques to determine year of cambial death, rate of canker longitudinal expansion, rate of canker circumferential expansion
~150 cankers measured, dissected, sanded, ready for dendrochronological analyses
